KGUARD Key Pouch con certificación de estanqueidad IPX8 ensayada hasta 40 metros.

What does IPX8 really mean for a waterproof key pouch?

"Waterproof" is a word used on countless products. But when the item inside is your electronic car key, it is worth understanding what the claim actually means.

IP is a classification system used to describe the protection provided by an enclosure against the ingress of external elements. In IPX8, the "X" means that no dust-protection rating is being stated, while "8" refers to protection against continuous immersion under the conditions specified for the test.

KGUARD Key Pouch is IPX8 certified and has been tested by an independent organisation to a depth of 40 metres.

For a surfer, the point is not to imagine surfing 40 metres underwater. The important distinction is that the product has been designed and tested for immersion rather than simply for splashes.

Waterproof performance also depends on correct use: inserting the key properly, preventing sharp elements from damaging the silicone, and positioning the closure ring and cord correctly according to the instructions.

Certification does not replace correct use. It does, however, help distinguish a general marketing claim from a performance level that has actually been tested.

When the object you are protecting is an electronic car key in the ocean, that difference matters.
